The Disability Integration Act Reaches a Milestone!

We now have more support in Congress than we’ve ever had on a bill to free our people!

On Friday (10/12/18), seven new DIA cosponsors were added in the House of Representatives, including a Republican from Florida.

Here is the list of new cosponsors:
Rep. Curbelo, Carlos [R-FL-26]
Rep. DeSaulnier, Mark [D-CA-11]
Rep. Fudge, Marcia L. [D-OH-11]
Rep. Norcross, Donald [D-NJ-1]
Rep. Pingree, Chellie [D-ME-1]
Rep. Scott, Robert C. “Bobby” [D-VA-3]
Rep. Thompson, Bennie G. [D-MS-2]

This brings the total of listed sponsors and cosponsors to 160 between the House and Senate. We have now passed the level of support we had for the Community Choice Act (CCA) in the 111th Congress which capped out at 159 cosponsors, which was the previous all-time high for any of the bills ADAPT has had to FREE OUR PEOPLE.

We need to give credit to the hard-working folks who have helped secure this record number of cosponsors. Here is a list of states that have more cosponsors than we did for CCA in 2010:
Illinois +6
Maryland +6
California +4
Massachusetts +4
Colorado +3
Oregon +3
Washington +3

WE NEED A REPUBLICAN IN THE SENATE!

We have 20 Republicans on the House bill, including Rep. Sensenbrenner who is the lead House sponsor, but we still need a Republican in the Senate. Here is our short list for Republicans we think would be most easily signed on. If your Republican Senator is not on the bill, don’t let the fact that a name isn’t on this list discourage you. We have had a significant number of surprise cosponsors who were not on any of our lists. That said, if your Senator is listed below, please urge them to cosponsor NOW!

Sen. Alexander (Tennessee)
Sen. Capitol (West Virginia)
Sen. Collins (Maine)
Sen. Ernst (Iowa)
Sen. Flake (Arizona)
