Atlantis ADAPT demands Representative Ken Buck’s support for the Disability Integration Act

Today Atlantis ADAPT is demanding Rep. Ken Buck co-sponsor the Disability Integration Act. We’ve been asking him for support and discussion on any concerns he has for months, including at a town hall on January 19th, 2018 where Atlantis ADAPT member Gil Casarez asked “Will you co-sponsor the Disability Integration Act?”

Currently Rep. Buck and Sen. Gardner are the only members of the Colorado Congressional delegation who are not co-sponsors of this legislation that would establish the right of all people with disabilities to live in their home and community rather than institutions.

Atlantis ADAPT activist Dawn Russell puts it best, “Congressman Buck has a choice to make, he can stand for the freedom and liberty of people with disabilities like his 6 House colleagues and Senator Bennett from Colorado or he can join Senator Gardner in not showing people with disabilities the dignity and respect they deserve.” Dawn Russell was one of the protesters arrested during the 3 day sit-in at Senator Gardner’s office and has proven on many occasions she’d “rather go to jail than die in a nursing home.”

We have tried to work with Representative Buck for months to get his support for the Disability Integration Act, today we demand it! For further information on the Disability Integration Act see www.disabilityintegrationact.org.
